First stop was Richmond IN, southern terminus of the Cardinal Greenway, another Rail-Trail Hall of Fame trail [My 4th]. Our ride was stopped short due to a large tree blocking the pathway but we werent planning to go too much further. Suffice it to say that if this section is indictative of the other sections holding possibly more scenic appeal, an extended ride would be well worth it. Split-rail fences are positioned along that edge, but, in my mind, they give a false sense of security: if you go off pavement, the wide-gapped fence may not really catch you. VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK This is a long post to give details for those who want to use the trail in Richmond. The trailheads, while not fancy, are very nice with good benches and clean, well-maintained, roomy porta-johns. There should not be these safety issues present on a paved trail. The Prairie Creek Reservior is close to the trail between Medford and Blountsville if you'd like to see a boats and visit a beach! As a Hoosier, I know that there can be some pretty boring and desolate places, so I was pleased to find the tree canopy as prolific as those I've seen in Michigan.
